Sankofa Community Development Corporation believes health to be the cornerstone of a thriving community. When individuals are healthy, relationships function better, families operate more easily and communities are more cohesive. This creates opportunities for increased safety, stability and overall viability.
Sankofa manages three gardens: 27 St. Claude Court; 2001 Independence, and hoop houses at 2149 Tennessee Street. Sankofa’s programs include its Veggie Dollars, an incentive program that provides $4 per week to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables to eligible residents who participate in WIC, Medicaid or SNAP.
Sankofa operates mobile markets and its Fresh Stop Market at the following times and locations:

Mobile Market, Villa St. Maurice, 500 St. Maurice Avenue:
Fridays, 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Lower 9th Ward Senior Center at the Sanchez Center, 1616 Caffin Avenue:
Tuesdays, 11:00 – 11:30 am
VA Medical Center, 1601 Perdido St:
Fridays, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
